Living in a small town has its perks. Sometimes it can feel as if we are a little detached from the rest of the world and all of its hustle and bustle. However, when we need to get something done we usually put ours heads together and find a way to get what we need or support those who have. That is why I was so excited when I heard about our local celiac support group in my area. Quarterly meetings are held and speakers share on any number of issues related to being gluten free. Tonight we will hear from someone who works in a pharmacy who is familiar with issues related to being gluten free. The group also provides numerous resources and recipes. Our summer highlight is a gluten free potluck. Who wouldn’t love going to a gluten free pot luck and not needing to ask, “What is in this”? In December there is a gluten free cookie exchange!!! Aside from the speakers, resources and recipes new friendships are forged with others who know where I am coming from and have shared similar experience. The group also gives me an opportunity to encourage others and those who have been newly diagnosed. If you are part of a gluten free support group please write and let me know. I would love to hear form you.
