Sixty Second Chocolate Snack

IMG_1002

Who needs bon-bons when you can have a chocolate treat in seconds?   The ingredients are probably already in your kitchen waiting for you.  Kids will love it when they come home from school and your sweetie will wonder what’s up when you serve this warm chocolate sauce with tart Green Granny Smiths apples or Sweet and Crunchy Red Delicious apples. Not to mention, who wouldn’t enjoy a mid day snack to get over an energy slump. I am often put off buy measuring multiple ingredients for most recipes and would rather go for the bare minimum to encourage healthier treats. There are no rules here.  I use about 1/2 cup Enjoy Life chocolate chips (they are gluten free, dairy free) and three or four tablespoons milk of choice.  Add a little more or keep an eye on finished chocolate because it tends to firm up. For a glossy finish you can add a teaspoon of butter or butter substitute once chocolate is melted but I don’t even do that unless I know sauce is going to sit out for a while.  Just put chocolate and milk in a microwave safe bowl heat for thirty seconds, stir and repeat until chocolate is melted but be careful not to over heat or chocolate can burn.  Ninety seconds should do it.  Meanwhile, slice two large apples and remove core and seeds.  On winter days I like to add 1/2 t. ground cinnamon or a dash of ground cyanine pepper.  There are no limits to what you might add vanilla or orange zest are great for summer.  Let your imagination be your guild.
